Encima, la superficie natural entre las cavidades sirve de calle, con una vista en absoluto perturbada del cielo y el horizonte; los túneles de comunicación son oscuros, intensos, misteriosos; la zona pública es un espacio delimitado, con buena luz y abierto [...] En la ritual vida cotidiana de esas gentes hay un paso continuo de la luz a la oscuridad, de la intimidad a la comunicación."
MATMATA
El edificio se excava y se construye a partir de un vacío. Dos volúmenes similares: un vacío y un lleno. Un gran patio significado por el volumen del teatro-auditorio y el contenido por el resto de piezas del programa.
Above, the natural surface of the ground between the hollows serves for streets, with a completely unimpeded view of the sky and the horizon. The communicating tunnels are dark, intense, mysterious. The public area is a well-defined open space with good light (...) In the ritual daily life of these people there is a continual passage from light into darkness, from intimacy to communication."
MATMATA
The building is excavated and constructed out of a void. Of two similar volumes, one is empty and the other full. A great patio is given meaning by the volume of the theatre/concert hall and is contained by the other pieces in the brief.
