This small house, in a plot that is also small, was always thought of as a private place. It was necessary to combine the desire for a very private atmosphere, protected from distortions created by the proximity of the neighbours, with an intense relationship with the small garden that the plot and the single-story house could accommodate.

The double courtyard the house is organised around, the large roller door that opens or closes it off to the garden, the opaqueness of the walls that face the boundaries, the floor to ceiling glazing of those that open on to the courtyard and the continuous treatment of all the ‘day’ areas of the house provide a solution with great spatial fluidity and continuous, intense contact with the sky and the garden, making this small house large.

Because the building is not very high, when the roller door is lowered the monkey-puzzle, ficus, jacaranda, pine and palm trees of the neighbouring gardens become ‘owned’ by the house’s own inhabited space.
