The Port
A port is a delightful place of rest for a soul weary of life’s battles. The vastness of the sky, the mobile architecture of the clouds, the changing coloration of the sea, the twinkling of the lights, are a prism marvellously fit to amuse the eyes without ever tiring them. The slender shapes of the ships with their complicated rigging, to which the surge lends harmonious oscillations, serve to sustain within the soul the taste for rhythm and beauty. Also, and above all, for the man who [no longer feels curiosity or ambition, there is a sort] of mysterious and aristocratic pleasure in contemplating, while lying on the belvedere or resting his elbows on the jetty-head, all these movements of men who are leaving and men who are returning, of those who still have the strength to will, the desire to travel or to enrich themselves.

The aim is to recover the essence of the north dock, its proportions, its poetics.
To feel a gentle murmur of what it once was. How? By reinforcing its directionality, hollowing it out, allowing the water to enter the furrows.
The furrows become a network of streets and squares of water hemming in the long islands that stretch out like arms to welcome the arriving ships. Jetties, pavilions, clubhouse, sailing school, shopping arcade and service dock, the materialisation of the brief, emerge out of this artificial topography.
The project shares in the destiny of the city.

SECCIÓN/SECTION

sistema filar

system of rows

build and at the same time hollow out
To reactivate the place, it is proposed to strengthen the existing connections (avenue to the port, seafront promenade), modify uses (industrial / leisure / cultural) and give it a more human scale.
A new place where all uses can coexist

a hybrid territory
The aim is to work on different scales and set up a dialogue between them: small functional spaces, the dock, the port with its inland sea and the city.
The project shares in the destiny of the city.
