We began this collection two years ago by showing the contemporary local architecture built over the previous year in the province of Alicante. After two issues on Alicante, we are now extending the collection to the province of Castellón.

Over the past twenty years, as a result of the economic development of this province and of the creation of its university and other public services, with new regional government buildings, health centres, schools and so on, Castellón has seen buildings and spaces being built or refurbished in a modern, up-to-date language.  That different official bodies have been prominent developers is evident from the contents of this first issue devoted to Castellón, but private initiatives by both individuals and companies, on a smaller or even a small scale and much more difficult to carry out, also deserve recognition.

This architecture has joined the landscapes and images of our villages, towns and cities quietly, without a fuss, reflecting its acceptance by the local population and the respect and consideration for their location that the buildings and works have normally shown.

The works for ARAC-07 have been chosen in collaboration with the College of Architects of Castellón. In order to provide a more complete view of the architecture being built in this province, which lacks the means of discovering and disseminating a knowledge of its architecture that Valencia and Alicante are given by their Schools of Architecture, this first number is not confined exclusively to works dated 2007 but covers those finished in the past two years.

In 2008 we hope to publish ARAC-08, showing the works finished over the coming year, works that help us all to live better, live together better and identify and refer to the space we inhabit.
